Writing Task 2: Essay 2

The costs of international travel are decreasing and tourism is growing. What are the advantages and disadvantages of increasing tourism activity in different countries?

Tourism is often touted as an industry that will never shrink in size. In other words, as the world develops, more and more people will be able to travel.  Although, many may see this as a positive phenomenon, it is not a trend without drawbacks. Both the advantages and the disadvantages of this topic will be analysed before a reasoned conclusion is reached.

On the one hand, the reduction in travel fares and the increasing of the global tourism can be seen as a positive event as it promotes intercultural understanding and global harmony. For example, many Middle Eastern nations have opened their doors and embraced tourism over the last twenty years and this has helped shed prejudiced views internationally that all Middle Eastern states are dangerous. This development clearly shows the benefits of an increasing international tourism industry.

In addition to this, tourism creates new opportunities for trade. For example, many Chinese tourists are bringing back products from foreign countries that are currently unavailable in China. These new trade ties are great for the health of the entire global economy and can be seen as yet another positive ramification resulting from increased tourism.

On the other hand, the international tourism does pose some disadvantages. For one, money travelling into countries can lead to the establishment of some morally questionable activity. To name a few, tourist hotspots in developing countries are often rife with theft problems, maimed beggars and prostitution. The inflaming of these issues as a result of increased tourism is an obvious disadvantage to the growing global travel industry.

Following this analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of tourism and the falling travel prices that are making it more possible, it is felt tourism has more benefits than drawbacks. It is hoped the growth in global intercultural understanding continues uninterrupted as tourism increases.

  3. The costs of international travels are decreasing and tourism is growing. What are the advantages and disadvantages of increasing tourism activity in different countries?
Today more people could afford to travel to foreign country than ever before as a result of the development of means of transportation and tourism industry. Accordingly, it brings many advantages and disadvantages at the same time.
On the one hand, the increasing number of passengers enlarges the demand of means of transportation. For example, there are more buses, subways, trains and international airlines are in operation now in any tourist city compared with 10 years ago. Furthermore, the advancing of tourism and relative industries provide huge number of positions in the host country, which could significantly solve the unemployment issue. Finally, international tourism also offers an opportunity to both guest and host country to exchange their ideas, values and culture with each other. In this case, mutual understanding could be achieved and international conflicts could be avoided altogether.
On the other hand, reaching the conclusion that the increasing tourism activity has positive influence on different countries is not as same as assuming that it does not have drawbacks. Firstly, it is not always the case that all travellers are well educated and with the awareness of preserving environment, historical heritage and public facility. Take London Olympic Game as an example, after the game, foreign passengers leave many graffiti to streets and public transportations, which bring inconveniences to local residents and communities. The relatively costs to remove all graffiti are considerable. Moreover, international trips are often last only few days or weeks. It is fairly difficult for travellers to fully understand the local traffic rules and regulations in this short time, especially for those who from different languages spoken countries. As a result, the risk of breaching traffic rules or involving in accidents for foreign passengers are higher compared with local residents.
In conclusion, while international tourism brings many benefits to us, some negative influences could not be ignored and the authorities should take immediate measures to address these issues.

  4. It is true that the growing trend of the price of traveling different countries is decreasing thus increasing people prefer international tourism has already caused side public concern over the recent years. In my opinion, no matter developed countries or developing countries will get benefits and impacts.

There are several advantages for people, who come from developing counties and benefit from the decreasing traveling consumption, wish traveling to different foreign countries. They believe tourism is the best leisure activity, it allows them getting relax and experiencing different cultures.

For developing countries, tourism also brings benefits. For example, it is financially beneficial to these countries, which need improve the standard of domestic people living. For example, tourist attraction cities attracts investment from government and companies, including foreign industries, therefore, the employment rate will be increased by the demand of goods and services increase dramatically.

On the other hand, tourism give rise to a number of problems. Firstly, the environment will be impact negatively by the crowding foreign visitors, causing pollution and waste. Taking China as an instance, a large number of artificial facilities have been built, which have certain unfavorable effects on the environment.Secondly, local traditions my be lost by forcing local people to work in the tourist industry. In this case, the traditional jobs and skills are facing die out because the lack of distinct culture, some places will not attract tourist any more.

In conclusion, international travel indeed is helpful for expand people's outlook, and boom developed country's economy. However, there is no denying that international tourism my bring about a disastrous impact on local environment and history.
